GOD' S PLAN .... ROBINS AND BLUEBIRDS

"Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors—We welcome all who seek to love the Lord."

One of my favorite prayers comes to mind as I reflect on Easter life in this glorious month of May; the prayer noted below reminds us that we are all so very important to the working of God's will in the world. Just as we have distinct fingerprints, I sense we have unique soul prints. When we pray "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” it is so very important that we understand that we are an essential part of the building of the reign of God on earth and the unfolding of God's will. It is so very important that we align ourselves with God's most Holy Spirit which will always summon us to selfless love, to compassion, and to the recognition that all people are created in the divine image and all are loved by God.

Each of us has a unique soul print - a special set of gifts, graces, dreams, and visions given to us by God. In Matthew 5:48 we are invited to "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Often our notions of perfection are shaped more by our culture than by God. In scripture the notion of perfection has nothing to do with looking like a movie star, playing like an all- star, earning like King Midas, or anything the world can hold up as Golden Calves of perfection. Biblical perfection is perfection in love, and it carries the idea of wholeness or completion. In other words, it is living out the soul print God intended for you alone.

In this amazing season, we see daffodils being daffodils and not trying to be hyacinths; the grass is simply grass and the leaves are leaves - each following the call of the Creator. The robin sings her own fine song and does not feign the sweet music of a bluebird. Unfortunately, we humans at times forget who and whose we are; we forget the way to peace and perfection is by living our unique soul print. I pray in this beautiful season of newness we will seek to be faithful to the call God has given us that only we can fulfill. How are we called to reflect Christ in our time and place?

God has created me to do him some definite service, He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know what it is in this life. But I shall be told in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for nothing. I shall do good. I shall do His work. Therefore, I will trust him. Whatever, wherever I am, I cannot be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what he is about. He may take away my friends, He may throw me among strangers, He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, Hide my future from me--- Still he knows what he is about. -- John Henry Cardinal Newman
